| The Gershwin Sessions |
Hailed as a "pleasure to discover" by the LA Jazz Scene, performances of the Lenny Solomon Trio (and Quintet) are "packed full of swing, polish and enthusiasm". Featuring "Canada’s premiere violinist", whose touches of humour endear the jazzman to the crowd, as does his warm personality and easy-going charm. But what captivates and impresses everybody to the point where they literally yell for more, is Solomon’s virtuosity on violin."
Throughout, Lenny has been sought after for his unique and exciting playing style on the violin. He was a Juno Award winner in the seventies as a member of the pop duo, Myles & Lenny. He was also a founding member of the popular ensemble, Quintessence. His ability to cross styles has made him one of the most popular performers in Canada.
Lenny’s debut CD, After You’ve Gone was released internationally in 1992 to rave reviews. He now returns with his second CD The Gershwin Sessions on the JAZZ INSPIRATION Records label. Inspired by Lenny’s love and fascination with the great composer, George Gershwin, the CD features his regulars: guitarist Reg Schwager and bassist Shelley Berger, with Pianist Phil Dwyer and drummer Barry Romberg. One of Lenny’s favorite tracks "A Foggy Day" features Guido Basso on flugelhorn.
Winner of "Violinist Of The Year" at The Jazz Report Awards for the last three years, Lenny appeared with the Toronto and Winnipeg Symphonies as featured guest artist with his extremely successful "Symphony Pops" show. He has signed with the prestigious Columbia Artists Management in New York City. When Lenny is not touring with his group, he is one of Canada’s busiest studio musicians performing or recording with such diverse artists as Liza Minelli, Anne Murray, John McDermott, Nigel Kennedy, Raffi, Prairie Oyster, Led Zeppelin, Ruby Braff and Peter Appleyard.
A member of a highly respected musical family, Lenny’s father was a principal violinist of the Toronto Symphony and his sister is one of Canada’s busiest composers for film and television. His early training with violinists Albert Pratz and Steven Staryk, combined with his love of jazz has helped Lenny develop into one of the best jazz violinists on the scene. He is continuing in the dynamic tradition of Stephane Grappelli, Jean Luc Ponty and Joe Venuti.
